Guillen's injury will keep him from starting by Opening Day

Carlos Guillen underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee last fall and is still recovering. The original timetable gave Guillen until mid-March. With that date come and gone, Carlos may be out of action until the end of April.

The shortstop turned second baseman had gotten to the running stage of his rehab process when he started to feel discomfort in the back of his knee. That was almost two weeks ago. Now, Guillen hopes to start running once again next week.

With Guillen's absence, Will Rhymes will take the reigns as the team's starting second baseman. Rhymes hit .304 with 19 RBI in 54 games for the Tigers last season.

  1. I love Guillen but I am in no way upset that Rhymes will be taking his place, I think he's great!
